PURUSHARTHAS - FOUR AIMS IN LIFE

elandra antion 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableWe began teaching Yoga in USA, UK & and Europe at a time when most people had never even heard the word Yoga! In the early days of Kundalini Yoga in USA, back in the flower-power late 60s, we would do yoga non-stop for weeks on end, women in skirts, and men bare-chested. Asked “Is Kundalini Yoga dangerous?” I used to answer, “Of course it is. You might just walk out afterwards with a new body. Even a new life! You might have a healing miracle on your knee, back, or wherever. You might take a trip to the stars, and descend back embodying into your quivering cells vast vistas of quantum consciousness. You might feel your pineal waking up and vibrating your third eye, and then wow, feel safely at home in your own body, held, healed, whole, and holy - at last. Holy moly dangerous, ‘cos you access, raise, move, cultivate, heal, love and harvest YOUR OWN DIVINE energy! And your transformation might change the world!” It did too, as safe-injury-free Kundalini Yoga is now popular worldwide. So in this class, while sharing our stories of our amazing experiences in the early days, we humorously and lovingly give you a taste of those times, with energy raising partner exercises, foot massage, Yoga Nidra, and live music and Kirtan. Join us for this evolutionary experience creating a New Earth!

Swami Shantimurti Timetable 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableHow we breathe has a direct impact on our emotional, physical and mental states of being and is one of the quickest tools to enhance self development. Yoga has many practices for this which can be applied to different personalities, koshas, doshas and suitable for any type of person. Through learning to control the breath we also extend the pranic or energy aspect of ourselves. Shantimurti is explaining how to apply the powerful yet simple techniques of pranayama to the practitioner as well as the yoga practice and class.

YOGA NIDRA with Leza Schwab Vishwatma
"Yoga nidra is a simple guided relaxation and meditation technique experienced lying down, and is often the favourite practice of yoga students.. Yoga nidra is unique to the Satyananda tradition, and is originally derived from an ancient tantric practice known as nyasa. It involves a systematic relaxation and purification at the physical, mental and emotional levels. Yoga nidra can easily deepen into a blissful experience where the body sleeps but the awareness remains active as it descends through the layers of the mind. Yoga nidra has many associated health benefits and is used widely to relieve stress, tension, anxiety and insomnia.”
(from Satyananda Mangrove Website)"
Yoga Nidra is a science, it is also a meditation technique that works the deeper layers of the mind. Each stage of a Satyananda Yoga Nidra is design to have a particular effect on subtle layers of mind, realeasing old impressions and allowing new patterns to evolve. Practised and taught correctly it has the potential to evoke deep change, promote rest and relaxation and give the student a deeper experience regardless of where they are in life or yoga practise. Its one of the few techniques that is just as effective for a complete beginner and advanced yogi! Used widely in therapeutic, educational and health contexts there is continuing research into the scientific aspects of the technique and it's benefits.

Neal Upavistha Konasana 2 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableIn this workshop we investigate how yoga asana may become a practice which invites enquiry, intuitive movement, curiosity and effortless ease. As we begin an active and friendly dialogue with our body, we can ask ourselves, what is our body requiring of us? What movements would suit our body right now? What message is our body sending us? And how do we respond? What message do we send back?

Every movement and posture could be a message (a gift) to the body. As we develop this body intelligence, we begin to embody qualities such as kindness, presence, creativity and mindfulness - qualities of our true nature.

Sol Petersen 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableApplying Hakomi Mindfulness in the teaching of yoga and a yoga practice
A workshop introducing psycho-therapeutic skills for yoga teachers, & anyone interested in their own embodiment.

The body is our tool for greater awareness and understanding. It contains all the wisdom we need in our development as full human beings. This wisdom is often hidden in the “unconscious” and not available to our “ordinary” state of mind.

Mindfulness, a heightened state of awareness where one observes responses that are most often automatic, is used to develop further awareness and insight. This approach explores the interface of the meditative attitude, therapy and yoga.

The content of this workshop is largely inspired by the work of Ron Kurtz and the Hakomi method and augmented by Sol’s 25 years of experience in somatic therapies. This class will introduce principles and basic techniques that anyone who works with the body will find invaluable.

Bernie Prior 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableExperience The Form - Reality Practice™
The Form RealitypRactice is a living transmission of the eternal, ever-evolving, cosmic dance of life. The movement awakens you to ever-finer frequencies of innermost experience, forever leading you beyond the confines of who you believe yourself to be. It is a pure and powerful tool of transmutation and self–mastery.

The movements and symbols contained within ‘The Form’ open
ever- finer frequencies of consciousness. They reflect and evolve and the eternal dance of the pure Masculine and Feminine Principles – the source of all creation.

Moving from a place of pure being frees you of past and realigns you with the majesty of your true creativity. The movement of your life becomes freedom’s dance; fully ‘in’ the world, but not ‘of' it.

Uniquely The Form can be practiced alone, or shared with another.

When shared, one person sits on a chair; the other moves slowly around them in a sequence of specific movements. It may appear as a slow graceful dance - stillness in motion. Mainly the movements are off the body; the feet, shoulders and head are each held briefly. The entire movement usually takes between 20 and 35 minutes.

With eyes closed, looking into blackness, one places one’s full attention on the sensations in the body.

The inner experience is indescribable, yet deeply felt. One opens as unchangeable spacious awareness in which everything takes place.

Vajra Dance 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableVajra Dance of the Liberation of the Six Lokas

In this practice of the Vajra Dance the principle is to purify the dimension of the Six Lokas and to manifest the Six Pure dimensions or Wisdoms of Samantabhadra. This practice is related more to our physical or Nirmanakaya level. Karmic vision is produced by our emotions and passions and for that reason in our samsaric vision we have the Six Lokas or the Six Classes of Beings with their related main characteristics (gods- attachment, semigods – jealousy, humans – pride, animals – ignorance, preta – greed, infernal – anger). We have the seeds of these dimensions in ourselves and therefore the possibility to be reborn in one of these dimensions. Through this practice we can purify our own karmic potentialities, which is inseparably linked to all sentient beings, and therefore also create a good cause for the liberation of all sentient beings.

Ambe Ray 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableJoin Ambe’ Ray as she guides us through an interactive ecstatic dance, and pranic breathe ceremony in honor and celebration of the creative life force essence and energy that animates all of life. Shakti is the sensual, rich, overflowing Mother, Lover, Creator and Destroyer. Shakti manifests as pure joy bubbling up from deep within our core. Shakti is the zest, the passion and the engagement with all of life. She is taking life by the horns and riding with it. She is the thread that connects us all. When we are in delight, free flowing, following our hearts’ desires and living them fully in every way, we are in the flow of Shakti. Living in the flow of Shakti is living who you are, passionately and on purpose and excited to play!

The magic psychodynamics that allow to project the mind and attract the qualities and the power of that which is performed and meditated upon. A great chance to grow psychically and make marvellous changes in our body, mind and spirit.
Vyayam is an ancient Indian technique used by warriors, dancers and performers. It emphasizes breath work to increase and transform energy to obtain greater physical and mental vitalitiy.
Obtaining the control of the breath enables the capacity to control our vital process and discover the key to expand and preserve our energy. Through learning to control breathing we learn to control our mind, due to the deep inter-relationship between body, mind and energy.

tantric dance 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableAncient and modern Tantric dances of life:
Come, listen to stories, and enjoy the experience and benefits of learning these three TANTRIC DANCES: Increase your concentration, energy levels, mental focus, blissful experience, flexibility, adaptability, improved health, ability to relax etc.

Tandava is an ancient tantric dance that invigorates physically, mentally and spiritually. According to the oral history of Tantra, Shiva introduced this dance 7000 years ago, to stimulate courage and valour. Fear is the great limiter in life and tandava symbolizes the ongoing struggle between stagnancy and dynamism between life divine and death. The root of the word Tandava is Tandu which means ‘to jump,’ so one tries to spend as much time as possible in the air. It is said that when one is in the air that energy is accumulated, and when one hits the ground this energy is assimilated by the body. This dance is for men only, as it directly stimulates the secretion of testosterone.

Kaoshikii on the other hand, comes from the Sanskrit word ‘kosa’ or ‘levels of mind’. Though designed from women it is performed by both men and women and is immensely beneficial not only for the body but also develops the subtle layers of mind. It acts to prevent back pain, nervousness, hernia, Kidney, bladder and urethra problems, rheumatism, insomnia and many others diseases.
Kiirtan dance is the most spiritual dance, said to have been invented by Parvati, Shiva’s spouse, and represents a spirit of longing for the supreme. This dance has profound physical and spiritual effects on the individual, the environment and the society.

She has been practicing yoga since 2003 and hasn't stop ever since, she currently teaches hatha and aerial yoga at Eastwest Yoga in Auckland and during the summer season she travels doing workshops at different music/art/dance/life festivals around New Zealand.
With her background as a professional canyoning guide in New Zealand and mountaineering in Chile, she has the technical skills to take the hammocks wherever she goes. Setting them up in the most amazing places to enjoy an aerial yoga session hanging from a tree, from a teepee structure, over the river, or at the beach.... her life goal is to promote a conscious life around yoga, people and nature.
Aerial yoga comes from the adaptation of Iyengar yoga (hatha yoga that sometimes uses props for structural alignment of the posture) and western modern life. It evolves to a new type of yoga using a hammock to enhance traditional yoga postures by holding the body weight either partially, or fully, so you can attempt different postures in a safe and fun way. This is a wonderful tool to teach students how to align their bodies within a variety of postures and experiencing the benefits of inversions without any compression on the spine. All levels of experience welcome. No previous aerial, acrobatic, or yoga experience is necessary.

Nicky Hamid 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableWorkshop: The Heart of Yoga: A Sacred Walk
In this session we take the premise that you don’t “do” yoga. Yoga is always happening. We will focus, or rather embrace, the wisdom knowing of the yoga of Divine Presence, Thou Art That (Tat Tvam Asi).
We will explore the four arms of yoga away from the purely Indian traditions and look at yoga experience in terms of inner wisdom (simplicity) and quantum vision (expansiveness and creativity).
Our four arms of yoga will be: Knowing (Jhana)-Loving (Bhakti)- Doing (Karma)- Intention (Raja)
For some what we will explore will be radical and for others it will be as natural and familiar as if you always knew. We will use the simplist and most powerful of exercises to focus our journey.
Dr. Nicky Hamid guarantees that you will come away from this workshop feeling “more” of who you truly are. This is the promise of your own Divine Presence through your own intrention and the eternal giving of Grace.

Allow yourself to be gently guided to return to your natural state of being through gentle Qigong postures and movements.
Participants report feeling calm, relaxed and revitalized after these sessions.

Qigong (also known as Chi Kung) is a self-training method which uses the mind, breathe, posture and movement to effect ongoing positive changes in Qi (energy and information) in order to improve health and elevate consciousness.
Qigong has been practised and passed down for millennia in China. Many of the exercises were secret for thousands of years, and now this knowledge is here for all to use.
The benefits of Qigong are multitudinous, and regular practice leads to improved health and vitality in all areas of our life.

The seeds of growing healthy embodied asana through embodied anatomy A
Body Mind Centering® workshop
With certified teacher of Body Mind Centering® Olive Bieringa

Join Olive for a deep dive into embodied anatomy and feel how it can
support our yoga practice. Together we will take a holographic exploration
of the human body to learn how to move from the inside out. We will expand
our understanding of self and increase our physical potential through
movement and hands on study. We will explore our organs and bones and
related developmental patterns how they can support our asana practice.
In studying embodied anatomy we not only learn about ourselves but come to
understand how we learn.

“This study leads to an understanding of how the mind is expressed through
the body and the body through the mind.” Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, the
founder of Body-Mind Centering®

Antion 6 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableYour Sacred Voice: Naad Yoga Chant & Sound Healing Experience – Antion & Elandra

Your Sacred Voice is the voice of your soul’s purpose: an advanced spiritual discipline that engenders ecstatic states of coherent consciousness. We all had ancestors who were tapped into the primal source of power, the Kundalini feminine-nurturing-loving nature-based Yin energy of Goddess Mother Earth, which once was predominant on our planet and is now being reinstated. The sacred sounds of chants, words, and songs open a doorway into multidimensional aspects of yourself where you can navigate to heal, evolve, and rearrange realities.
Experience how you can use the power of sound to:

· Heal your emotional or physical pain, sometimes instantly
· Balance and energize your chakras
· Empower your 5th chakra (throat), the key to emotional healing
· Create your own vocal sadhana (daily spiritual practice)
· Manifest your joyous incredible life

Antion’s 40 year voice coaching, sound healing, daily practice of Sacred Voice and teaching, powerful musicianship, and multicultural sound mastery has given him a unique perspective to help you heal and evolve by nurturing and developing Your Sacred Voice within.

Activate the inner energetic movement, toughen and increase the strength of the body fortifying the spirit.
A great way to meditate and still the mind while strengthening the physical body.

Sally cook1 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableLive to Dance and Dance to Live with Nia
I believe we are all born dancers, with innate co-ordination and animal-like grace. As time goes by, we tend to lose touch with this natural ease. Muscles tense unnecessarily, and our alignment goes askew. Nia lets us practice letting go; letting go of stress, letting go of unnecessary holding in our body, letting go of preconceptions about what is supposed to happen, letting go of fear of awkwardness, letting go of the belief that we don’t have the right body for dancing.
When we let go of habitual holding patterns and habitual ways of thinking in order to let something new happen, eventually we find energy and power. We rediscover our natural alignment, improve strength and flexibility, and awaken creativity and spontaneity.

Let Nia help you find your dance, your 'innate co-ordination and animal-like grace', let your body lead you on your dance through life.

'Choice-to-choice, moment-to-moment, it's the game of life defined by each day, by each choice, that guides us all. We are only using half of our potential to figure out choices if we rely only on our mind. We have to feel our way through life, not think it.'

jeffree clarkson 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableUsing his beautiful music in a natural Surround environment, Jeffree facilitates this workshop that opens the inner portal for hyper-communication and group alignment consciousness. Dancing the inner pathway through Stillness and Movement meditation arrives at the field of combined intentional healing and the profound centering of the inner self – all in the key of music.

"As many of you will be aware, One in the Field is the title i have given to my new CD album. It also succinctly describes the content of this workshop. In many ways it is a workshop with a difference in that I will be setting up the venue in a full surround sound environment - this will enhance the meditation experience and the tonal healing component of the workshop. There will be "stillness" and "movement" meditations as well as creative visualization practices"
"There are two fundamental aspects to this workshop: Firstly, we will be looking at aspects of "The Field" relating to the perspective of a fully-expressed individuality. We will be exploring sound and language vibration, as typically applied to positive cellular communication. New research shows how an awareness of sound vibration can be instrumental in modulating the frequency of DNA and the rejuvenation of new cells. Secondly, we will be looking at the phenomenon Hyper-communication, specifically through the window of an integrated self-awareness and how this empowers a new and powerful level of group consciousness capable of profound physical healing".

Oni 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableIn Vairochana's system of Yantra Yoga there are five main types of prana practices linked to the five groups of positions, but first we must do some preparatory movements which are considered to be very important. So in Yantra Yoga first of all there are eight movements related to the eight characteristic ways of breathing: exhaling, inhaling. Slowly or quickly, holding closed, or open and so on. If we learn these eight movements and apply them sufficiently, when the teacher explains how to do the breathing in a prana practice, we will have a guarantee because we know how to apply the breathing correctly through practicing the Eight Movements.

Solar Flying

In this workshop we explore the acrobatic side of AcroYoga in a strength based practice which seeks to cultivate trust, empowerment and joy. Moves are always practiced in groups so you can be sure that you will be safe as you explore the edges. Inversions, agility and focus play a big role in this form of the practice and you will be supported in a space to experience and create within your own capacity. All experience levels welcome.

CONNIE CAUSA Aerial Yoga

ARial Yoga 2 2014 Yoga Festival TimetableConnie is the founder of Vimana Aerial Yoga, a unique project that fusions her love for the yoga, outdoors, festivals, slacklining and heights.
