Functional Yoga and the Bio-Mechanics of Posture 2012

 A post-graduate teacher’s training course

with Vincent Bolletta from Yogashala

A practical and theoretical study of body mechanics, Vincent de-mystifies classical terms, into practical and relevant enquiry. What are the different benefits of a headstand and dog down? Both are inversions. Before advising a student on how to use an asana and what modifications to make, it is necessary to see clearly the precise way the asana affects the musculature of the body.

A good teacher observes, explores, and finally understands. This program empowers the instructor, through enquiry, using the tools of pranayama, asana, postural re-patterning and hands on enhancement, to teach well. A must do course for all serious yoga teachers. It offers an in-depth view of anatomy, postural understanding, asana and communication skills that can be applied to any teaching situation or to one’s own personal practice.

Students need to have completed a minimum of 200 hours accredited with Yoga Alliance or equivalent, to enrol in this course.

This course runs part time for seven weekends over six months with two intakes, in February and July. And we offer residential and non-residential options.

Testimonials

Vincent brings a wealth of experience to his teacher training program. What is unique about this program is Vincent encourages the students to not just learn the theory but to be intuitive and thoughtful about how they put it into practice. This makes a nice change from the many rote learning teacher training programs on offer. For me the most beneficial part of the course was the practical asana section. This involved learning how to observe different bodies and to then personalise the asanas for each individual. In the asana, anatomy, pranayama and chanting practices we were encouraged to question and know clearly the reasons behind the different yogic practices.

Having had ten years of full time yoga teaching myself I found Vincent’s experience and insights into the yogic practices and philosophy invaluable.

Vincent teaches from a place of experiential knowing and embodied wisdom. He offers this to his students with good humour, patience and unconditional support. Vincent encourages one to be curious about their yoga practice and offers a range of tools to support that enquiry including pranayam, asana, postural re-patterning and hands on enhancement. The course offers an in depth view of anatomy, postural understanding, asana & communication skills that can be applied to any teaching situation or to one’s own personal practice. The classes are informative, interactive and enhance one’s ability to meet the challenges of holding a yoga class. They are complementary to anyone who has already trained or is currently training in yoga.

Vincent ‘s depth of knowledge, experience, personal practice and philosophy on yoga is inspiring and enriching. Doing his course has filled many gaps I had following my training and given me the confidence to teach from well founded understanding. I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone participate in a course with him.
