We host a number of workshops and seminars, in this tranquil and peaceful environment. To gain the full experience, without the interruption of the outside world, we find for the most part people prefer to take advantage of our very affordable accommodation while they attend their workshop.


Kawai Purapura is a sanctuary, and many guests return at a later date for a personal retreat or to just take time out. The staff of Kawai Purapura are committed to supporting you in every aspect of your stay, so you can relax and imbibe the calm ambience of the centre.

Ample shared bathroom facilities are provided for the comfort of all participants. There are seventeen rooms offering shared twin facilities, with an additional third person if required. Three of the twin rooms have double beds. There are two self-contained units (ideal for workshop leaders). Marae style accommodation can be arranged if required. Single rooms will be allocated on request, if available.

As a retreat, Kawai Purapura offers a stillness that rests the mind, body and soul.

When you first arrive, it becomes distinctly clear that this is a healing abode, every moment full of the alive, soothing breath of nature. When you leave you will be ready to take on life’s challenges again, refreshed and revitalised. The absolutely great thing that remains with you after you leave however, is the knowledge that no matter how difficult life gets, Kawai Purapura is always there, with a room for you, opening out into stillness and serenity, where you can take time for yourself. It is a haven This knowing is reassuring.

While the option is there; you do not have to be alone. The friendly residential community enjoys visitors and frequently gets together for community events. Kawaipurapura is an ideal way to meet like-minded people.

Check the community activities web-page for weekly yoga classes and other activities. The option is there if you want to participate in some of the going-ons around the centre. Meals are usually organised by your workshop leaders, nevertheless we have extensive facilities if you are on your own. Our on-site cooks may be able to cater for your special requests. The residential community also produces delectable community meals. Check the website or reception for the menu.

Bush walks are also a popular attraction at Kawai Purapura, along the stream, up to the tree-line, through the glade. They give individuals or groups an opportunity to settle into the natural surroundings and find comfort in serenity. For a map or directions, see reception.  No  smoking is permitted on the property.
