With Drs Shridar and Pooja Maddella. This intensive is part of the one year full-time Yoga Dilpoma run by Wellpark College. Traditional Yoga is taught from the Indian classical texts and is based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. This ancient text encompasses the eight-fold path, including the means of achieving the social and moral conducts of life (Yamas and Niyamas). Wellpark College teaches yoga from the traditional prespective. The programme integrates the practices of physical postures (asana), breathing techniques (pranayama), relaxation, meditation, chanting and lifestyle modifications. These practices expand your awareness of the deeper levels of our being and can improve health, happiness and wellbeing.
Yoga taught from this prespective opens us to the potential of knowing who we really are, what we can achieve and how we can be of service to the world. It creates a sense of connection and balance between the physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual (pure self) aspects of ourselves.
During the first semester, students study Philosphy and Practice of Yoga, Anatomy and Physiology and Ayurveda. You will also learn and conduct practicals for Ayurvedic massage. The early part of the yoga course concentrates on personal development, and the second semester brings emphasis to becoming a yoga teacher.
Also during the second semester, you will begin clinical experience and organise the teaching of faculty specified hours of yoga classes. You are offered the opportunity to become involved in the Green Prescription programme, providing free physical activity classes to clients on the recommendation of their doctors.
