Workshop Spaces:

We offer four different workshop spaces varying in size, character and charm.  The spaces provide an ideal environment for retreat participants to pursue self-exploration, growth and re-discover personal peace and wellbeing. Our smallest space seats 1-10 and our largest up to 150.

Prema Centre

The Prema Centre, at the heart of Kawai Purapura, encompasses two clinic rooms, our reception, dining area, kitchen and lounge. This space has a wonderful ambiance with open fireplaces, sunny bush-clad outlooks and expansive decks.

Prema Lounge

The Prema Lounge is a large, carpeted workshop space that offers an open fireplace, sunny bush-clad outlook and opens out onto the expansive deck.

Shanti Yoga Studio

Nestled in amongst the native forest, the Shanti Yoga Studio provides a large floor space that is ideally suited to a diverse range of movement-based activities such as yoga, tai chi, dance, meditation retreats and body therapies. The Shanti Yoga Studio is equipped with a wood-burning fireplace, beautiful traditional mandala and spiritual altar.

The Lotus Sanctuary

The Lotus Sanctuary is a large workshop space located a sufficient distance from the Prema Centre to offer seclusion for those requiring extended yoga, meditation or fasting retreats. It has its own built-in kitchen and new ablution facilities have recently been added to this space.

Whare Kahikatea

Whare Kahikatea is a Community Education facility featuring a broad range of classes, including the new Kawai Purapura Yoga Studio consisting of three experienced Yoga Teachers and currently five classes a week. From Friday to Sunday it is available for full-day retreat bookings.

The large open space looks out on a grassy plain sheltered by a large tree canopy and gently flowing stream. The large floor space makes it an ideal venue for larger seminars and workshops and physical activities such as yoga, tai chi and dance.

Swimming Pool

You can unwind or exercise in the 25-metre, non-chlorinated, solar-heated pool during the summer season.

The Glade

The Glade provides a unique spiritual setting surrounded by trees and a gentle flowing stream for your special outdoor sacred activities, such as circle dancing, ceremonies, weddings and celebrations.

For visitors in need of a special outdoor sacred space for activities such as circle dancing, ceremonies and celebrations, there is the Glade. Up the path from the main centre,  the Glade offers a unique and spiritual location for our community. Criss-crossed by walkways, Kawai Purapura is connected to the adjacent Council Reserve land with streams and mature native trees, including the magnificent Kahikatea. If you take a walk at dusk, you can enjoy an extraordinary display by the glow worms as the evening begins.
